To help out a little, we’ve put together a few handy tips to give you some food for thought.

Kitchen cabinetry is essential to a functional kitchen, but just because it’s practical doesn’t mean it can’t also be trendy. There is no shortage of styles, colors, and materials. From bold and eye-catching to sleek and minimal, you’re sure to find just the thing you’re looking for.

To inspire you, we’ve selected some of our favorites from current cabinet design trends. There’s something here for just about everybody!

Bold Colors That Pop

What better way to make a statement in your kitchen than with brightly-painted cabinets? It’s a simple adjustment, and if your cabinets are in good shape, you won’t need to do anything too drastic. If you’re happy with your cabinets from a practical standpoint, you can simply sand, prime, and paint – it’s what we call refacing.

Refacing is a fast and inexpensive solution that can completely change the look of your kitchen. For example, white cabinets can really open up the space, and they go well with everything. Dark blue or black cabinets are on-trend right now and would pair well with greys, whites, and even natural wood accents. Lighter blues look great with bronze, greens can be bright and earthy, and red will give you a real “wow” factor.

Mixing and Matching Cabinets

If you’re into a nontraditional aesthetic, why not use your cabinets to highlight your eclectic style? There’s no need to just stick to one design or color. Mix it up with a combination of cabinets and open shelves, or think about adding custom built-ins. You can easily integrate personalized elements into your design to make your kitchen storage fit your needs and lifestyle. And why stop there? There are lots of ways to mix and match your kitchen. You can use different materials to create textural contrast and depth. Layer contrasting shades of paint, add wood accents or go for a more modern vibe with laminate, plastic, resin, or glass. Mixing materials is a fun way to liven things up and give you a visually dynamic kitchen.

Shaker It Up With Shaker-Style Cabinets

Shaker style cabinets are one of the most popular cabinet trends and have been for a long time. Recently, this style of cabinetry has enjoyed renewed popularity, probably because of its simplicity and timeless look. Even if you’re not familiar with the name, you are sure to have seen them somewhere. Shakers consist of five panels – four framing the outside of the cabinet door, and the fifth is recessed in the center, creating dimension and visual interest without being ostentatious. The outer panels can vary in width and depth, depending on your preferences. Shaker cabinets are best complemented by minimalistic hardware (or no hardware) and light-colored finishes to highlight the recessed feature.

Flat-Out And Super-Stylish

Another fan favorite style is the flat-front or slab cabinet. True to its name, the flat-front cabinet is completely flat. This style is well-suited to contemporary kitchen designs, as its simple elegance blends well with contemporary, modern, and minimalist design. Like the shaker cabinet, less is more when it comes to hardware. Choose something simple and streamlined to underscore the sleek quality of these cabinets. Flat-front cabinets come in a wide variety of colors and materials, making them ideal for customization. Whether you’re going Scandi or industrial, mid-century, or contemporary, the flat-front cabinet may be the perfect choice for you.

You Can’t Handle This – Or Can You?

Have you ever thought about having cabinets without handles? Taking today’s minimalist, everything-hidden-away approach a step further, hardware-free cabinets give you a seamless, futuristic, yet timeless look. You don’t need hardware on your cabinets for them to be elegant and functional. Finger-pulls or pull-outs are molded into or made from the same material as the cabinet, making them virtually invisible. If you love the simple look, or if you want to draw attention to another feature in your kitchen, hardware-less cabinets are definitely the way to go.
