And most come in light and dark versions, as well as polished or satin finishes. Mixing, not matching, is a big design trend. Neutrals like nickel, chrome, and stainless look good on just about any surface.
- Step 2: Your style. Some designers believe the safest bet is to match your hardware finishes to your permanent fittings such as your faucets and showerheads. Others suggest having fun with your choices, maybe introducing pops of color or sparkle. We think the perfect choice is one that expresses your personality and sense of style. In other words, don’t be afraid to go matchy-matchy or all out eclectic if that’s who you are!
- Step 3: Placement. Keeping practicality in mind, bathroom cabinet hardware can be placed however and wherever you want! But the classic placements never let you down. On the other hand, when hardware is placed wrong, it can make an otherwise awesome space look not so awesome at all. Pulls on drawers and knobs on door is the standard rule, but it’s one that can be broken for smaller spaces like a bathroom. For small bathroom drawers, center a pull in both directions. Want something a little more modern? Place knobs or pulls so the bottom or top is flush with the edge of the face frame.

For oversized cabinetry, longer length pulls or oversized knobs with a diameter of 1-1/2 inches or larger is ideal. Standard size cabinets typically look best with pull sizes of 3-4 inches and knobs that are 1-1/4 to 1-3/8 inches. For narrow drawers, use smaller knobs that are less than an inch in diameter, or try t-pulls instead of bar pulls.
