James became interested in carpentry when he answered a “Help Wanted” ad in the San Diego Union Tribune seeking a Painter’s Helper at a commercial property management company. His employer soon discovered he was a willing carpenter apprentice and the foundation as a carpenter was laid. He has been at it now for over 30 years.

His interest in philosophy and theology led James to the St. Louis area where he made his home in the remodeling industry.

James feels his formative years as an apprentice taught him that taking on more responsibilities and “owning” his share of a project has played an important role in his becoming a competent Lead Carpenter. Aside from the technical skills of framing, drywall, paint, plaster, and finish carpentry, he has developed what he considers to be the most important skill of a lead carpenter, “communication”. Building trust and a fruitful relationship with homeowners has become a strength in his skill set.

Showing the homeowner a profound respect for their home and minimizing disruption to their daily lives as he works in their home is an important goal James strives for.

In his free time, James enjoys hiking and camping and is an involved dad to his twin son and daughter; supporting his son’s interest in boxing and his daughters love of art.
